How do you get in college?
Did you pay yourself? Someone else pay? or did you get aid and grants and that?

RE: How do you get in college?
It just sort of happened. College here in the UK has a different term and meaning than in the US. You see, we have secondary school from 11 years old to 16 years old. Then from 16, we go to college. We leave at 18, to go to University, which would be your equivalent of college.
So for me, my college started at 16, and many schools offer sixth form-additional education courses. I did end up staying in college till I was 21. Long huh. I started with a couple of GCSE's, I didn't get a chance to do in school and started an Intermediate GNVQ Business course. Then at 17-18 jumped onto an AVCE(Advanced) Business studies course, to follow through from the Intermediate. Also started an AVCE Information Technology course. These originally were two years, but I got held back a year, so I had to repeat it, but successfully passed it and received my certificate. College, is all paid for. You don't need a grant, only of course if you go to an actual college, than you'll have to pay. But i staid in my secondary school, as they offered an extension college there. I wasn't planning on going to University (your college) so i did not fill out any forms or applications. One day I happened to go to a University with a friend, as she was going for the open day, and I asked for a course, they had it, but put me on foundation to gather the equivalent grades before, moving into a full degree. I got offered the place straight away, without any forms. Everyone else had to fill them and wait around, before getting in. I didn't, I just got the place. The first year, my parents paid for it. I eventually moved into a BA Business Management and Urban Development degree, to follow through with my accreditted grades. At first was unware of how exactly the whole loan thing worked, so got one out for the first year. On the second year, found out that didn't need a loan, as the University would pay all my fees automatically, and they would give me a grant, as my parents earnt a lot lower, to meet the loans expectations as my mum doesn't work. So got all that sorted out in the end, and didn't pay a pound again. Although now, I have to start paying back my first year, and it sure was a heck of a lot. Ridiculous too. It's been a wonderful experience nonetheless, though not got a job in the area I studied as it's been really difficult. Still, i'm happy that part of my life was experienced. |
