I agree with the school thing. Its the parent(s) job not the school and also I disagree with spanking in public. I find it cruel to watch a parent slap and spank their child in front of everyone.

Parents seem to do it when angry a lot and thats not good...

I am all for a babysitter enforcing rules if required with a spanking or slap. After all, I babysit, and I have to spank the child when she doesn't listen to me.

Wow, I have never hit a child other than my own and I have done my share of babysitting. If a child was totally incorrigible I would just refuse to babysit them again but I certainly wouldn't hit them. I simply can't fathom doing that to someone else's child, but then I know how I'd feel if someone else hit mine; I'd want to strike THEM. :@

I won't tolerate willful disobedience. She is old enough to know what she is allowed to do and what not.

She's not totally bad, but she needs discipline. And when she's with me, she's gonna get it. She knows she is supposed to listen to me.

while my 2 boys were in diapers they would recieve a good swat on the diaper whenever they didnt obey. by the time they were out of diapers they understood yes and no and dont do that etc and we never had to touch them again. they are both college grads and doing well in life. in my opinion if they dont understand by the end of the diaper era they never will. also i think the worst thing that ever happened to child rearing was dr. benjamin spock.

Spankings can lead to depression, violence, and misunderstandings. How can you teach a child not to hit, but you hit them? Children learn from you and when they see you taking out your frustrations on them when they miss behave they will learn to solve their problems this way as well. I have 3 kids and I do not spank them. As a matter of fact they would prefer a spanking compared to the punishments they get which aren't harsh, but they are strict.

I do believe it's the parents choice how they choose to discipline their children and the government should not interfere with it unless it is obsessive or abusive. I do believe instead of fighting to prevent physical punishment the government should fight to educate our parents on the possible consequences of physical discipline and also verbal abuse.

The problem is most people respond with anger and not love, ie the child feels unloved. As the Bible puts it a parent who does nothing to correct a child shows no love. It (the Bible) doesn't mean beat a child till he is black and blue with a rod. My mom and dad did both, and until I was old enough to not really care how they felt the spankings I got hurt the worse because I could sense disapointment in my behavior. As I got older and more rebellious they took away my freedom which made me mad and determined to outwit them the next time.

In short, the best way? Chain the little snots to a chair and horse whip them twice a day whether the need it or not!!!!

What makes me upset though id people are using the "rights card" saying that the authorities shouldn't even attempt to get involved even if they are BEATING their kids because its none of their business, IMO, people like that shouldn't be allowed to have kids or kids near them...

I didn't say I don't do anything to correct my children. I am always getting complements on how well behaved my kids are. We are strict with them and believe it or not, you can be that way without brutal beatings. Sometimes, whether you mean it or not, beatings can get out of control and someone can end up in a hospital. Ask a nurse who works in the children's department if you don't believe me.

I know when we got spankings when I was growing up my mom would start out the spanking with love and it would end with rage, a few knots, and a bloody nose or head.
