What are your views on child spanking?

It should be banned and why not, adults can respond but children cannot even do that.

That results in mental unrest and depression, which affects their future life!!
This should not be the case!!
Of couse I have not received any..

When done in the proper way, it is very good. I have received several (:shy spankings in my lifetime, and I'm all the better for it.


It sure gets the point across, if you ask me.

I got it growing up with the belt, switch, paddle and you name it. I even got it in school up until the 3rd grade then they banned it in school where I am.

I don't think I am messed up at all by it but I will never hit my kid(s) If I have any, just a personal thing.

I grew up with the belt. And you can bet I made sure I behaved!

And, I spank the little girl I babysit if she misbehaves, or does something she KNOWS she's not allowed to do. It works atleast.

Some people don't need spanked, all they need is a reproof. That's fine. But if they are out of control and don't listen after you tell them 3 times, it's time for the belt.

define "really good people"

i've met some kids who appear to have been well-raised, and whose parents admittedly did not spank them. this does lead me to believe that physical spanking may not be a prerequisite for decency

but i think if children are even aware of the "rod" so to speak, perhaps, they'll put themselves in check without testing the waters

I believe a swat on the behind is acceptable; a beating is not. I am against corporal punishment in the schools and don't believe anyone except a parent should discipline a child in this way. When my son was young, if a baby-sitter ever hit him, that would be the last time! :@

It depends on if the child knows if the parent MEANS that they are going to "spank them" or if the parent is just saying to so they will stop.

I've seen some parents do that. They never follow through with what they tell them they're gonna do.
